Here We Go Again!
CootieBoy’s Story and His Growth Statistics
CootieBoy [edited] was born via c-section at 1:12 p.m. on August 18, 2004. Weighing in at 8 lbs 5 oz he was 8 oz lighter than his sister, CootieGirl. He was also a bit longer – coming in at 19.3 inches long, versus her 18 inches. Their one similarity? The red hair. His was sparse but all over his head, unlike CootieGirl’s mohawk and mullet that she sported upon arrival.
As of his one week birthday, he had a healthy appetite, loved to sleep and was pretty much adorable. Time will tell what he’ll be like as a baby, but so far so good!
Below you’ll find his growth statistics, as well as his milestones, which I plan on updating through his first year.

CootieBoy’s Milestones:
August 18, 2004: CootieBoy is born!
October 13, 2004: Active smiling in response to our voice and touch
November 14, 2004: Began sleeping through the night
December 21, 2004: Started on rice cereal
late Jan/early Feb 2005: Began rolling over from stomach to back
April 5, 2005: The first two bottom teeth finally pop through
April 15, 2005 – He can sit up on his own now, but occasionally leans too far and flops over
April 18, 2005 A tooth on the top has popped through!
April 20, 2005 Yet another tooth – his fourth one, this one also on the top.
May 2 , 2005 – Two more teeth on top for a total of six teeth (4 top, 2 bottom)
May 10, 2005 – He finally loves Cheerios. Can’t get enough of them.
June 15, 2005 – It’s official! He’s crawling!
June 18, 2005 – I enter his room this morning and he’s standing up in his crib!
June 28, 2005 – Third tooth on the bottom is coming in. Drool everywhere!
July 1, 2005 – Finally our lazy boy decides to actually hold his bottle on his own instead of forcing us to hold it. It’s July 6 and he has held his own bottle for five days in a row – so I believe it’s official. He’s not so lazy after all.
July 9, 2005 – CootieBoy starting clapping his hands this weekend – too cute because he’s fascinated by it.
July 11, 2005 – Denis reports that CootieBoy is now waving goodbye periodically. I’ll believe it when I see it.
July 23, 2005 – CootieBoy makes it up the stairs on his first attempt.
August 13, 2005 – CootieBoy stands up from a sitting position on his own for the first time, using the coffee table for assistance.
August 14, 2005 – We discovered a fourth tooth coming in the bottom front of CootieBoy’s mouth.
August 19, 2005 – He waves and says “bye-bye” now to anyone that does the same.
August 30, 2005 – He can now walk with the assistance of one hand holding onto him. I predict if we keep practicing that by mid-September he’ll be completely on his own and determined to get into as much trouble as possible!
October 3, 2005 – He can say a few words now, like “da” (yes), Mama and Dada. He’s also a great parrot and can mimic the sound of a lot of words we say.
October 15, 2005 – He’s officially a solo walker now. He’s been walking a few steps on his own for a few weeks now, but he now has true balance and can pretty much walk all over the house unassisted.
November 15, 2005 – I don’t know when it actually popped through, but I saw that his upper left molar is in.
December 6, 2005 – he says “mama” on a regular basis, although it can mean either me or Denis – whoever is holding him at the time, really.
July 3, 2006 – haven’t updated this in a while! He’s quite the chatterbox at this point, gabbing away in a mix of English and Russian. He loves to mimic his big sister. He is also starting to pottytrain, thanks to that instinct to mimic her behavior!
Sept 9, 2006 – We realized that CootieBoy can count to ten. One night he just stood up and counted all the way up with no errors!
October 3, 2006 – And how about that alphabet? He loves singing his ABCs all the way through now.
November 28, 2006 – he finally understands what “time out” means and will dutifully sit on the step waiting for his two minutes to be over. Sometimes he fights it, though.
July 2007:
Wow, I kind of let this lag, didn’t I? Well, I’ll let the page stay here for now, but may delete it as he gets older. We’ll see. As for how CootieBoy is now – his speech seemed to improve overnight, recently. He went from speaking his own version of English to being more dilgent about saying the words correctly and clearly. We gave up on potty-training in the fall. He just wasn’t ready and probably won’t be for a few more months. We’re anxious to get that started but we’re not going to push him. He’s a bundle of raw energy and has a great sense of humor. He LOVES music and learns the songs he hears very quickly. His current favorite movie is an oldie but goodie: An American Tail. He loves two of the songs from that movie and requires that we sing them every night as he goes to bed.
January 2008
CootieBoy is basically potty-trained now. He still has accidents every now and again, but for the most part he’s done. YAY! At 3 1/2 years old he can now write most of his letters and numbers on the chalkboard the kids got for Christmas. So he’s pretty smart. He still loves music and is constantly singing around the house while he’s playing. He got a train for Christmas that he loves playing with. But right now the easel is what grabs his attention.
September 2009
What a difference a year and a half make! CootieBoy is five years old now, and despite only just starting kindergarten last month he’s already reading at a 1st grade level. He loves playing video games (the Lego games are his favorite) and this summer he learned how to swim. He has a great sense of humor and loves to laugh. He continues to love music and enjoys riding the bus to and from school each morning.
January 2010
The boy is growing in leaps and bounds! Since the summer he has gained inches and pounds on his frame, and is quite the young man. On New Year’s Day 2010 he officially lost his first tooth. He is one of the best students in his kindergarten class and continues to love reading and learning. In fact, he has said he wants to be a librarian when he grows up! And then an astronaut. And then a policeman. In that order.
